Igor Stravinsky

Stravinsky's Sketches for a Sonata of 1967 were his last original work. Arranged from sketches for an unfinished orchestral piece begun in November 1966, the two miniatures last less than half a minute in performance. The first consists of an unharmonized and unbarred melody line at the beginning and end, with repeated chords at the end of the first half. The second is characterized by octaves and by rests separating the phrases.

The Sketches for a Sonata were premiered on February 3, 1973.
